I come from the area of
Mani, in the southern tip of the
Tzanetakis' castle in Gytheion
and
Mavromichalis-Kapetanakos' castle
in Areopolis, the town where the Greek revolution
started in main Greece on May 23, 1821. According to Maniot
architectural standards, these two castles are not very
safe, because of their large windows that let bullets
and canon-balls in...
St. George, my village, is in
Vatheia, in the sixteenth
century (another favorite pirate spot).
A favorite spot of mine in the southern Peloponnese, an hour and
a half drive eastwards from Mani, is the medieval castle of
Monemvasia.
